It has occurred to me that peat moss alone as a substrate will not support earth worms in the viv. This is my first stab at a non mulch substrate, what mix for substrate would be best to use if i intend to keep worms and pillbugs in the soil. I have a huge bag of sphagnum peat, so should i do a 50/50 mix with plain top soil? Thanks for any input.

Not sure if high acidity of peat moss has anything to do with it, mixing in powdered limestone balances the PH. You still need to mix in the soil.
