I'm ready to purchase a sudanese Sulcata hatchling but I wanted a quick review of my setup from the experienced folks in this forum. So, I have built a 4x2x2 pvc enclosure with ambient temps remaining 80-85 all day. The humidity ranges from 75-95% depending on if I am opening the doors a lot or not. Basking light ranges from 95-105 degrees . During the day I have uv ho florescent bulb and I also use a 65 watt flood bulb attached to a movable rod that I can lower or raise depending on temps. And at night I have a 100watt ceramic heat emitter that turns on when the hide drops below 81degrees. I have one all day water dish and one food dish from pot bases. I also have a cuddle bone that the tortoise can nibble on at his leisure. Any improvements or suggestions to have optimal enclosure for sudanese Sulcata hatchling? Below I'm attaching photos. In the pictures the humidity might seem a little low because I was taking pictures with the doors open because the windows were steamed up. In the last picture I attached image of how I can vary the height of the lighting inside using clips and a rod. Also the ceramic heat emitter is on a thermostat, and the basking and ho florescent bulb are on a 13 hr timer. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks

One would NEVER find baby tortoises out in the open.

That makes perfect sense! What plants do best inside this type of enclosure? A high humidity one? Should I plant them inside the enclosure?

Is it acceptable to dig part of my grass and soil up and place it on a flat rock inside the enclosure to grow?

im going to add be very careful who you buy a "sudan" from there are only a very small handful of people who have real sudans many are selling normal sulcatas as sudans and charging more for them. sadly this happens a lot here in the usa.

I have been talking with @Tom about purchasing one through him. Right now I'm just waiting for him to get some free time to get some pictures. So hopefully Tom will have a hatchling available.

I have a bunch of them, but I'm swamped with work. I see them daily when I take care of them, and I'm always rushing around to get the chores done and get on with the next thing. Then when I remember to get pics, I'm sitting at work or somewhere else far from the tortoises...

No problem, I'm in no major rush at all. Just allowing me more prep time. Whenever you get the time! No rush !
