Hello,
I noticed on the left side a recent abrasion or graze of some sort. On the right side, he’s had the two light marking for a long time, but not sure what they are either. Please let me n ow if it’s something I need to worry about. He’ll about 2 years old this June. He’s been living out in my backyard since last summer. I lock him up in his house at night where he has a Kane mat as well as a radiator heater that keeps him warm at about 80-83 degrees Fahrenheit

Thank you,
J

The area between the scutes looks like typical CA rough growth from our dry climate. The areas on the right side that are not on the growing edge do look like a scrape of some sort. Check the enclosure for what could be causing that.

Thank you Tom for your quick response. Yeah, the markings on the right side, happen when he was younger. I had him in a ZooMed Tortoise house and I’m think it might have been the CHE might have been too close to him. Not 100% sure of the cause though. Looking it just looks like discoloration now. Is there anything I can do for home to make his carapace more healthier. What do you think of his over all shell growth, is it okay than most? Or average for a Southern California grown Sulcata?

Add moisture to the night house. I use tubs or buckets of water inside. Soak frequently, and wet down the yard early and often on warm days.
