Sulcata male or female

[Philly Tortoise Compound]

so I’ve had my sulcata since it was a hatchling and the guy to me it was a male. And I’m like ‘how does this guy know it’s sex, it’s no bigger than a quarter!’ And now I’ve had it for 3 yrs and now it’s grown to about 8 inches long. Yet, I’m still wondering what it’s sex is.

No way to tell. i have had so many totally change at about 14"-15". Suddenly the gulars start to grow, the tail gains size and the anal scutes that looked like they turned inward start sweeping out!!! I will never call a sulcata a female until 16" At 8" no way to even guess with more than 50/50 certainty!
