Hello everybody! I am brand new to this site and to tortoises. I am a college student looking to get one. I have been looking at sulcata tortoises for almost 2 years now and I think I'm almost ready. My biggest concern is that I have 3 years to go at my university, including this year. So I need to know when I should get my tortoise so that by the time I'm in my senior year, it will still be a size that can live in a dorm? I want to know what is best, even if that means waiting. I also need all the general info on how to care for one, habitat, food, etc. Any sources you all can give would be very helpful!

Tus en tak!

Hi Annie. Welcome to the forum. They can reach 8-10" in one year if they are started and housed properly. That would qualify as too big to live in a dorm, in my experience with dorms.

You really need your own property to properly house sulcatas. And ideally, you'll live somewhere warm too.

Here is all the requested care info:

Most breeders do not start them correctly and many die weeks or months down the road as a result.
