Welcome! Fine grade orchid bark and a Phillips 65 watt flood light are the way to go, along with a tube uvb and CHE on a thermostat for night heat/ambient.

However, a 50 gallon won’t last long, and bigger is really better.

Be sure to give these a read :)

Thanks so much!! I only have them in the 50 gal for now. I plan on building both of them their own closed chamber homes this weekend. I was wondering what one would do in terms of dimensions? I want them to have enough space for a coupe of years at least.

Glad to hear you’ll be separating. Tortoises should not be kept in pairs.

8x4 feet will last them until they’re big enough to live outdoors full time.

Yes I actually didn’t know that until I read it here. I started out with two sulcatas. One of them died after 8 days and the company let me get another one. Both are doing good but I now want to separate them. Wen they are older will be ok together once outside full time?
Are there any distinctions as hatchlings such as color or behaviors that could lean toward a certain sex?

No, they need to be permanently separated unless you add some to make a group, and no, they all look female as babies. I’m sorry for your loss :(
