Aside from the fact they have pretty shells, live a long time and get quite big!

Me and my mum saw a leopard tortoise today - we went to originally look at horsefield/russian tortoises! - and we have fallen in love.

So i've been doing research online but theres a lot of contradictory stuff.
Here's a few questions. Feel free to add any extra information you have. Also good book and site recommendations would be great :)
I have tortoises and turtles for dummies, which is due to arrive tomorrow.

What sort of things do they like in there enclosures?
(So bedding/flooring, things to hide in etc)

What can they eat?
What can't they eat?
(I know greens and i know fruit is a no, no. But is there anything they like particularly. Also tortoise food you buy in shops? good or bad?)

I had a whole list of questions but my mind is drawing a blank!

I'm getting him/her a rather large table. With heat lamp and UV light.
Any recommendations of UV and heat lamps?

Also on warm, nice days, i gather he can go outside in a run in the garden?

God, i sound like a complete moron. I'm not i promise. I just want to make sure i give my tortoise the best so he stays happy and healthy.
Theres no such thing as being over-prepared - I'd rather sound silly and ask stupid questions than not ask and get it all wrong.

The care sheet Dmarcus gave you is how I care for them. They really are a great tortoise species, some say they are not interesting...but of course that's all in the eye of the beholder.

I feel completely the opposite Neal.
As soon as I saw my Leopard I knew she was interesting with bags of personality. :)

Have to say i'm completely won over by leopards so far and haven't even collected Squirt yet.
My mum is talking about setting up and having about 5 full grown ones eventually.
Making a big outdoor pen and making a spare bedroom into an indoor area for winter and colder days.
She's crazy but one day hopefully that will happen :p!

You and I think exactly the same about leopards then. :D

Sounds like you have one cool mom. We're here to help in any way we can so just ask anything.

Yep, my (almost 5 mos. old) leo Humphrey is starting to follow me around when we are outside "taking a walk". He definitely has personality.)
