I’m so proud of my chickens! I’ve had them since their hatch date (June 7) and now they have produced me an egg!!! Or 2!

I kind of have a bird fetish! I had a Quaker parrot for 8 years before I had a child! Once the kid came my poor bird became aggressive and mean. I found an awesome person to take him yet I miss him everyday!!! I have dreams about him! So these girls are my closed things to having a bird! I pick them up daily and hug them! They don’t know they fill a void but they really do. My bird was so awesome! He woke me up at 5 to get in my bed and cuddle! Some say cuddle that’s crazy! But he was a lover bug!

Chickens are great to have around. I like the RI Reds, but the barred rocks are my favorite.

I have such horrible news! I was too upset to post this until now. My lovely hens all passed but one in a coop fire about weeks ago. I cried and cried. It was so surreal and horrible. It was a Saturday morning when my husband saw smoke in the window and looked out to see the coop smoking. He ran out and pushed it over to let the girls get out but it was too late. They passed from smoke inhalation. Two were alive but in bad shape gasping for air. I called my dad to take care of them because we couldn’t. One did get out and ran into the woods. I found her hours later and have been nursing her back. She stays in the basement at night and I let her out during the day. I still can’t believe it at times. We’ve had chickens before and had heat lamps and this never happened.
