You are about to view the smallest and maybe the rarest tortoise in the world.

I don't know of anyone that has ever bred / hatched any in captivity.
Danny may know of someone.

Besides Danny.. does anyone know what these are? Tell them how small they are Danny!

I know I know!!! It starts with a P...right.....Its right on the tip of my tonuge...darn IT I hate this ..now Ive gotta go look it up lol

OK I confess...I looked it up LOL Speckled Cape Padloper.....see I knew it had a "P" in it. LOL

Makes me wish I still had my male. :( They are great tortoises. He was only 3 inches SCL and weighed 80g. Females get up to 4 inches and 150g. I still have him he's just not still alive.
They have been bred here in the states, private and public facilities and are being bred in the Netherlands and Germany.

Oh, the impossible dream. I've always been fasinated by Homopus genus and the Akrikaans name padloper is great.

Smallest- Probably

Rarest- Nope. I believe 'Lonesome George' holds that title, he is the very last of his species, poor guy...:(

Thanks to you for drawing this tortise to my attention as I had not heard of it before. I also enjoyed picking up on that link Danny put on. at least some people are trying to help these torts.
