There is nothing like some leisurely time in the neighborhood water hole...

Finally it's time to get out of the water...

...and find a nice log to dry off on.

His leaving has not gone unnoticed, as a hunter watches from the other side of the watering hole.

From the tall grass, there comes a rustling sound...

Another tortoise appears and heads into the watering hole unconcerned that a mighty black panther is watching...

The water is always better below the surface.

After drinking her fill, it's time to leave.

I love that habitat, Jacqui. I guess the rain this past couple weeks hasn't deterred you much from working outside, huh?

I have a cat almost a twin to your little tiger (Little Missy Kitty), and a black panther too (Lil brother).

Lovely pics Jacqui. I am in the process of designing and building an outdoor fruit cage for the erosas-they will love climbing the bushes- and reds-split down the middle- and wandering if it would be worth setting up like a mini pond for them like you've done with pond plants. Do they use it regularly?

BEAUTIFUL set up and gorgeous torts.Quick question.Do you filter your pond? I would love to put in a nice water feature, and have a larger pond but it's quite deep.I worry that my tort would drown. How do you keep it so clean if you can't empty it everyday?

You have a Bells, so while they may be able to swim, they aren't swimmers like the Erosa and Homes, so I would go with shallow for them.

This is a shallow one I made over an old preformed pond I had for turtles. If I had to do it over again, I would make sure to use a little larger rocks. I have not had problems with mine eatng rocks, but a person in Florida had major problems with their hingebacks doing so.

I would also go with more sunlight then that enclosure with the stream has.
This is a current enclosure a couple of Bells are in right now.

In it, I am just using a plant water saucer.

Yeah I do the same as jacqui with the hinge-backs. The big ponds. Yep gotta drain, scrub, and refill. We do it about 3 times a week.
