Ha, okay. My google fu says it's the thickness of the tail that indicates sex. I was thinking of my turtles, which you can sex by their curve of their shell. :)

You Cannot Really 100 Percent Be Sure Of Gender Until it's An Adult,
But Some Of The Experts Can Give Some Educated Guesses, Just Wait On Them :)

Marginateds are extremely hard to sex until they are at least 4 inches and 5 is better. :p But if I had to give an opinion, I'd say Emmett looks like a male to me. :D

As Danny said, Marginateds are extremely hard to sex until about 4" and 5" is definitely better! Below are photos of 6" Marginated tortoises tails. At this size most should be very obvious. The male is the first photo, the female the second and third.
