Hey y'all, looking for advice for digs for my new tiny turtle, Flash. I have had juvenile and adult red eared sliders, Midland paints, and eastern paints, but never one as tiny as this little southern painted! So my question is, can he be kept in a normal aquarium with filter or still too small?
His carapace is a little bigger than a quarter right now, and I'm keeping him in a round faunarium, no filter - it's about a foot and a half diameter. I'm changing his water daily, he has a basking spot and uvb light. Eating well. Like I said, I am well versed in turtle care and I have multiple sizes aquaria to move him to once I'm not worried about him drowning or getting too much current with the filter.
He is SO mischievous- the first day I brought him home I had him in a styrofoam cooler while I went and got some stuff for him. When I came home he was GONE. I totally flipped out, scoured the house looking for him, found him all dried up behind a tortoise tank across the room. I thought he was dead, but he received when I put him back in the water and has shown no I'll effects since. So he either scaled the vertical walls or a dog got in our dog-proof room and fished him out, leaving no trace of the deed. Very mysterious.
Anyway, Flash seems to be happy and healthy and hasn't pulled a Houdini since. Just wondering if I can set him up in an aquaria with filter now or if I should wait. Thanks y'all!
