Hey…. Wait a minute here…..
If I’m gonna be on “The Door of Titanic”
I promise I WILL make room for Sally AND Gary! ?
I’ll float along in the cold waters..
Hahaha….
Thank you for your concern my sweet pea.
We are sort of ok now.
But boy, what a mess of everything.
Gary and Sally slept through it all…
(If you can believe that!) ?‍♀️
Meanwhile, we (my husband and I)
were huddled like two orphaned cats waiting for Mother Nature to take a break. (She never did)
I heard on the news about 23 people lost their lives in NJ last night and 13 in NY.
I am just devastated!!
What a stupid storm to cause such horrible senseless deaths.
When you heard their stories it was so unbelievable how easily you could loose your life.?
One house even EXPLODED!!
The flood waters broke a gas pipe and it EXPLODED! I still can’t believe that!!??
While today was a beautiful sunny day it was impossible to enjoy it when all around you was destruction.
I still can’t believe it all…
I will get a long deserved sleep tonight for sure. I had about 1 hour sleep last night because the worst of the storm hit us through the night at midnight carrying on till about 3am.
Who could sleep thinking the roof was about to fall in on you in your pjs ???

As I said to Cassie in a pm message…
If monkeys were to have flown out of my bum …. I would have NOT been surprised.
Here’s to a sort of quiet night. ??‍♀️
Love to you and the wee babies! ?❤️??

Chef-

P.S.- how did you know about my daring lacy underwear??!! ??
(Probably doesn’t even fit anymore)???
Glad you are ok. Was a little worried that you floated away on your mattress float & you'd be in the UK or something before we heard from you again. That's quite the little fishin' hole you got down at the end of the street.

Don't know where the pm went. I probably forgot to hit send.

Get some sleep. Night, night!!

If Chef or anyone else floats away in the floods, I am just on the edge of the Atlantic, on the other side - just let me know as you approach, and I will have a hot pasty and some Devon fudge waiting for you, to warm you up and energise you - tortoises and snails also welcome, of course !

Looking forward to seeing you, dear Chef. Pasties were originally made for the tin miners in Cornwall and Devon to eat while at work down the mines -the crimped crusty bit round the edge was for them to hold with their filthy hands while eating- the idea was for the crust to be thrown away, but I imagine a lot got eaten !
I don't think lettuce pasties small enough for Gary have ever been made, but I think Sally would enjoy one of the vegetarian full-size ones - and of course you could choose whatever you liked.
I am so very glad you are safe

Thank you Angie!
I soooo appreciate that.
But if I am being honest…. The CRUST looks the best part!!! ?
Either way, I’m coming down for one!
What a very cool story about how, where, when they were first made….
For the minors…
I should have known..
Growing up my moms stories about ANYTHING involved “the war” OR “the minors”..
There was always a story lurking around the corner….
In America all my friends got cute little bunny bed time stories…
I got …. “When uncle Jack was in the war..”
Or “ when the minors had to go down into the mines…”.
They were scary stories every time!
And when the end came she would always say….
“ ok then, nite nite. Go to sleep now, you’ve got school in the morning.”

WE WERE SCARED SH*TLESS TO GO TO SLEEP NOW???!
What was she thinking????
Oh yea, and on the rare occasion we told her “we had heard that story before”….
She was always prepared with a
Ghost, gobblin, or boogie man song or poem… ??????
Looking back now, I can honestly say
I LOOOOVE my mom.
What a nut burger!! ??

?????????????

Wheesh, wheesh , wheesh
here comes the bogeyman…
go to bed you babies
Tommy,Nell and Ann.
Wheesh, Wheesh, Wheesh
he’ll catch you if you can
all the hopsie , glopsies, ghosties
and the bogeyman…
(Or something like that..)

Poor little Chef - I am sorry your mum scared you like that - of course, she may have been doing it to strengthen you and make you more resilient in the future - if so, she probably helped you to be the brave, kind and strong person that you are now- and please don't say you are not, because it comes over clearly in your posts !
I am not sure you would have liked the pasties the miners had to eat - I think their wives just put in whatever they had that was approximately edible - so you would be wise just to eat the pastry - except of course it would be contaminated with mine dust.
I promise you any I give you would be very wholesome and nice in all ways.
How is Sally doing - any progress? And Gary?
Keep well, all three of you

And, of course, "pasties" in some other ways of life has a whole different meaning. TBS, it seems to me that these recipes should not be lost, but shared. Now that I'm back to relatively sea level, i'm going to once again try baking again. I never mastered baking at altitude.

Been at altitude since 1973. Are we still using the oven for baking?? LOL
