I love the fact that they decided to mate him and thus discovered that he was really a she. I can't believe she had to drag around that sign.

Did I read that correctly? They etched a motto on her underside?

She was featured in the tortoise BBC special hosted by David Attenborough a few years ago. I wondered whatever happened to her. Thanks for posting.

Yeah they etched the family motto on her, and I guess they figured the sign was better then getting picked up and possibly dropped.

I'm not meaning to appear ignorant, but what species was our senior citizen. I assume she was one of the Mediterranean tortoises, but which one?

Greek I believe, But I'm not 100% about that.
