tortoise eating poop normal or not

my tortoise usualy wakes up every day around 6:30 7 am every day some morning when i sleep in till 8am or 9 i will wake to see my tortoise eating hes poop and i wonder if this is bad or maybe just him saying get up and feed me.can this hurt him and will he grow out of it?

Its not nice at all, your torotise must be lacking something to eat their own poop.

i feed him kale i give him calcium and mazu tortoise chow i dont think hes lacking but i will be taking him to vet and maybe he can refer me to a specialist to give me a more in depth look into what could be.

clark, the issue could be his diet. try to focus more on giving him grasses and weeds. try to stay away from most grocery store produce. your tortoise needs to eat "wild" plants, if you know what i mean. i would also eliminate the use of the tortoise chow...or at least minimize it.
what species is your tort? usually planting some bermuda grass is a good bet for a great food source. another common one is mulberry leaves.

Hi,
This is normal behaviour,they are quite resourceful.Infact,if you have a tort that has been under the weather and received veterinary treatment,rather than give a pro-biotic,a healthy torts poo does as good a job.

Transtort, so good to know this is normal. Now that I have babies I won't have to worry if I see them do this. and Justanja thanks for the clarification on what type of tort Clark has. I went back in and checked Clarks welcome post and did get that his Salcuta is 7 oz. and about 4 inches.
