I have never trimmed my tortoise's nails or beak but she has long nails and they probably need cutting - are there any special scissors to cut tortoise's nails? I have also heard of people putting a tile in the enclosure to wear down nails, but I'm not sure

Some species of tortoise have naturally long nails, like Russians, and there's not need to trim them. But tortoises that are fed foods they don't have to bite off to eat sometimes do get overgrown beaks. You can grind it with a Dremmel, or you can use human toe nail clippers. I recommend having a vet or rehabber do it the first time and show you how before you try it yourself.

Female tortoises sometimes have long nails to aid them in nest digging.

If you post pictures we can advise you better.

I couldn't get many good ones because she (because she's only one I can't tell if she's a male or female so I just call her a 'her') was very active! ?

Aw, it's jst a baby! Babies do have long nails. They wear down as he gets older. Don't trim them. What about the beak?
