I was wondering if anyone knows anything about traveling with your tortoise aboard a train (i.e. amtrak)? I know amtrak's official policy according to their website is "no pets", but if they don't search my baggage, I can't imagine that they'd care if I have my quiet, hypoallergenic little baby with me ( I'm the proud 'mom' of a 2 year old leopard tort).

Has anyone successfully traveled with their tortoise aboard a train or knows anyone who has? Given most airlines strict policies against tortoises, (which seems ridiculous to me since they are hypoallergenic while cats, dogs, rabbits and other animals they allow are not), I am hoping that train travel might be a viable alternative...

Does amtrak even aggressively search bags prior to boarding?

I believe there's a policy about not discussing anything illegal on the forums.

My suggestion would be to do whatever you think is best!

ask your family doc to prescribe your tort as an anxiety measure during your trip.

No, they don't search your bags...I'd do it. My grandson travels by Amtrac all the time. He gonna come to take me to the store at 3:30 so I'll talk to him about it...
