How funny that is because I was thinking that I should go over to the Pasadena Humane Society today just to see what they have in and was actually wondering if they would have any DT's available and here is one. I just emailed Walter because I know he's been looking for one. :D I might go see this one tomorrow it doesn't look as big as the others.

As of right now, the Pasadena CDT is the only one listed as available, but if anybody is interested in any of the others please contact the shelter and find out when he/she is available!

And thank you Danny!

I saw this guy last night before I started work and he is f**king friendly. I took him out and he just loves to be around people. I have to think that somewhere there's a miserable tortoise owner missing their boy! Anyway, I'm not into CDTs to the point that I would take him, but he is definitely worth it for any of you who is.;)

Don't bother Walter I just got back from the shelter and they said that they're not able to adopt out to anyone because they are required to give it to the rescue. I even asked if I could just look at it and they said that they couldn't even do that. Call the rescue Walter and ask them about the tortoise.

That's a shame.
I guess it's nice though when a complete idiot wants to adopt one, because then they can't... so it's good for the animal.

I will continue to post them here, and if you are interested, contact the CTTC and see if they can help.

They have to post them as Found.. Strays.. Im kinda glad they dont adopt them out to anyone.. You can still get them thru the chapter Im sure.. they are looking for homes for lots of them.. you just have to go thru a more rigorus process.. paperwork, inspection etc.. but it should be that way..

They also list them in the adoptable/available sections too, not just lost and found....

Hey guys,

So I actually went to the Pasadena Shelter and filled out the pre-adoption forms for the CDT. Gave them a copy of my permit and they said everthing was in order. I was going to be picking up the tortoise on Saturday morning at 9am, if the owner didnt call in before 5pm friday afternoon. I just got home and had a message on the answering machine from the Pasadena shelter. They are adopting out the tortoise to the Foothill Chapter! So their is no use in posting these threads..the only ways to obtain a CDT is: Chapters, friend or taking one from the desert (Im just joking) or like many postings I've seen "It just popped up in my frontyard" (I find these postings hard to believe) Its like saying...."So I was driving today...and OMG a stray Galapagos tortoise was crossing the road"

I'm so sorry Walter. I know how badly you want one. What time did you go in this morning because I was there at around 10:30 and they said they would not adopt it out. She did tell me that it was a little one though. Maybe I got there after you and she found out more information by then. I do love this shelter though it's one of the best that I've seen. Very clean and the animals look very well taken care of. What surprised me though is that they had a full breed Golden Retriever puppy that was 3 months old and female that was up for adoption on the 14th of this month. Usually the rescues will jump on these kinds of dogs. I called my sister since she already had two of them, but she wasn't home and I don't need another animal. :(

I cannot go anywhere near any kinda of shelter or pound. I would bring them all home, dogs, cats, etc. I need to win the lottery so I can adopt them all and have room and the time for them. I have convinced my hubby after the egg scare to let me build an "aviary" and get a couple of chickens. I am a country girl stuck in the city.

Actually, yes, there is still a purpose in posting these ads, as if you are interested in one of the CDTs posted here, you could contact the CTTC chapters and see if they could help you get the tortoise (them rescue it, and you adopt it later from them).

I have my opinion on these so called "Rescues". They pay about $100 to adopt a pure bred animal from a shelter and turn around and adopt out the same animal for about $300-400!!!! Its a business. I wont these "Rescues" adopt mutts? I saw a Dutch Shepherd (A very rare working dog, can be compared to a german shepherd or a belgian malinois) It was still available in the morning, and adopted in the afternoon by a "Rescue". The Adoption Specialist jokingly said "Geeze, these rescues sure beat you today, huh?

Do the rescues charge for tortoises? I didn't know that. Do they really charge that much? I know that you are right when it comes to pure breed dogs though they do do that. :(

All the tortoises go to chapters. I went to the German Shepherd rescue in Los Angeles and they wanted $400 adoption fee.
