* I can testify to observing our young aldabras (even 3" hatchlings) eating every type of grass, weed, and vines in our back yard.

I think it is because they get used to eating grass, weeds from day-1 ?

Mine really taking quite some time to start consuming grass and hays. Even now still need to mix some weeds or greens in his hays for him to start eating.
