Turtle sex?

I am looking for help in determining the sex of my turtle.

Im guessing male because its tail is longer than a females would be, it is also tucked to the side.

Thanks I was leaning towards a male also but wanted to ask ya guys on here. I was thinking about getting a female and mating them. Do u guys think that will work or should I have 2 males and 1 female

Get atleast two females if you are going to mate them. It would b way too much stress on one. The prefered amount is 3 but u should b able to get away with 2.

If you get more tortoises, please keep in mind that they MUST be kept entirely separately from yours, in quarantine, for at least 6 months. This is prevent them from making your tort sick, or vice versa.

You must have a very large enclosure with plenty of sight barriers if keeping more than one tort. Size does matter. If there is a difference in size, you are far more likely to get problems with bullying and fighting.

Redfoots seem to be more tolerant of company than some other species, but do not be surprised if your male does not welcome another tort sharing HIS territory. If there is any sign of mental or physical bullying they must be separated and this may well have to be permanent apart from introduction for mating.

So only get another tort if you can keep it separately in quarantine and if you have the space to accept that this may have to be permanent.
