I'm in the process of trying to rehome a tort and I just had this sent to me as proof that a prospective adopter was a good tortoise keeper:bad tort keeping.jpg

...and yes they are all being kept together in the same tank, yes he has had them since hatchlings, and yes they are being fed fruit...

I sent him a link to tortoise forums.

Hopefully they actually join. Did you give them these too?

I have seen both types the uninformed, and the ignorant come here asking for help since I have joined. I think 99% fall in the uninformed(and want to learn) category. Whether they're treating their Sulcata like it's a desert species, or feeding there Russian the wrong diet, there's a hundred different scenarios. But the uninformed ask questions, and positively take the criticism and advice and apply it to better care of their tortoise. The ignorant, the unfortunate 1%. They ask questions, they have stuff pointed out to them, but rather apply what they have been advised they find a way to ask the same question 10 different ways. They somehow turn it into their being bullied, talked down to, or told what to do.

I wish I could say the same about reptile amino. I’d say it’s more 50/50 here. Here’s an example that happened a while ago(sorry, it’s picture heavy, lol)IMG_1526411444.613194.jpgIMG_1526411188.328558.jpgIMG_1526411196.995329.jpgIMG_1526411204.981379.jpgIMG_1526411213.330161.jpgIMG_1526411221.644742.jpgIMG_1526411232.124010.jpgIMG_1526411242.386296.jpgIMG_1526411250.144106.jpgIMG_1526411257.541807.jpgIMG_1526411276.908374.jpgIMG_1526411286.706612.jpgIMG_1526411315.966020.jpgIMG_1526411326.947598.jpgIMG_1526411356.132687.jpgIMG_1526411367.500808.jpgIMG_1526411375.987281.jpgIMG_1526411395.136530.jpgIMG_1526411406.156380.jpg

Hey, guess what? A new one appeared today. It’s not tortoise related, but... dear god. It’s a mess. http://aminoapps.com/p/nai6ya
Oh, don’t worry about the leopard geckos. They died two weeks ago from metabolic bones disease because they can’t afford to take care of them.

Notice how the bearded dragons either have no heat lamp and a UVB, or a red light with no UVB.

HA everyone is commenting on that post roasting the “owner”. I feel so bad for animals sometimes :(

Yeah, luckily reptile amino does have a very large population of people that know what they’re doing. But then, there are these people.
I would definitely call that animal hoarding.

Aaaand they have several tortoises, and a bunch of turtles crammed into a tank. Oh, and did I mention that they’re keeping a turtle in a critter keeper?IMG_1526435078.424867.jpg
The rest of the admin team and I are currently doing all we can to try and fix this. Sadly, they don’t have their location on, so we can’t call or email anyone about it.
They have to have 50+ reptiles. This is disgusting.

[emoji24][emoji24][emoji24] again I get sometimes people make mistakes or lose track of what their supposed to do. Then don’t get that many pets if you can’t take care of them to the full potential!

The sad thing is, there’s nothing we can do but delete their posts(really just hiding them).

Why are people like this?IMG_0741.jpgIMG_0742.jpg
They won’t listen to a word I say. Apparently it’s fine because they observed the lizard in the wild, and even though they’re countries apart, there have been a few sightings of them together in the wild. But oh, they know what they’re doing of course...

(Save me lol)

You know what? This thread is just where I’m gonna document all of the crazies I find on the reptile site I moderate. Anyone else is welcomed to do the same with anything they find anywhere, lol
