So this is the vet's advice as below:
Dear Mr. Alan Kong,
Sully was brought for X-ray last Saturday afternoon. Kindly refer attachment for the radiography image.
Summary of radiograph finding: Impacted colon.
Possible causes:
1. Dehydration
2. Accidental ingestion of foreign contaminated materials
Signs (as observed by owner):
1. Vomiting
2. Lethargy
3. Inappetant (not eating)
4. Constipation (no defecation)
Clinical findings (3-day stay in hospital):
1. Oral (mouth) examination shows no significant findings (absence of mouth rot).
2. No vomiting observed since 1/8/2015 (Saturday).
3. No defecation (stool) observed.
4. Sully appeared quiet but alert and responsive but still refuse food.
5. Respiration (breathing appeared normal).
6. Sully moves and walks occasionally.
Suggested treatment regime:
1. Lactulose (or mineral oil) 0.2ml orally once a day until faeces observed.
2. Dilute Psyllium solution (high fibre supplement)
3. Feed liquidify leafy vegetables.
4. Warm water soak (5 minutes a day).
Advice to owner:
1. Isolate Sully so she can get her own food or diet (not shared).
2. Increase availability of water. Place Sully in a basin with water (chin deep) 3-4 times a day for half an hour each session to let her drink. NOTE: Water is absorbed by the colon (large intestine) and the lack of water causes the colon faecal mass that is difficult to pass through the rectum or cloaca.
3. Feed liquidify leafy vegetables. Blend leafy vegetables with water and syringe feed as required.
4. Observe defecation. Collect faeces to check for worm burden or other intestinal parasitic infestation.
5. DO NOT put in the following cage materials: Styrofoam, wood chips, sand, calcium sand, dirt.
We are open tomorrow morning at 9am. You can choose to continue her hospitalization or collect Sully to start the home treatment.
Sincerely,
