uvb lighting question

I have been using a Zilla strip light fixture (http://www.petco.com/product/115855...Strip-Light-Fixture.aspx?CoreCat=OnSiteSearch) and I'm not sure it's giving my tortoise enough UV. It has some type of clear plastic-ish cover over the light. I heard once that windows block the UV from the sun and I'm wondering if this is blocking the UV from this light since my tortoise is starting to have some slight pyramiding.

That plastic cover does block the UVB being emitted. If your light fixture still has the plastic over it, you should remove that so your tortoises get UVB exposure.
