Vitamin Storage?

I had a theoretical question. If tortoises in the wild hibernate 4-6 months and can be perfectly healthy, obviously they would not be getting vitamins like vitamin D3, how long could they go without D3 whilst still maintaining good health. Do they just store it for a long time, is it because they are not growing that it does not affect them? I know it might be a stupid question but.
