Okay, i've been thinking about switching to a tortoise table instead of vivarium. But i've jus been to the shop and they said forget a table because they're too hard to heat! Please can someone help me :-( i have no idea what to do and what's best for Nelson :-(

Tables are fine, ideally the ambient temps should be something similar to room temps with a basking spot as well. Generally, pet shops give bad advice.

Thank you! I had a feeling they just wanted me to spend more!

It also depends on the table. Tables that have screen or open tops are harder to heat then tables that have glass or plexi glass covers. But if you keep your house decently warm plus your basking bulb and stuff your table will be fine. If you need a little extra heat add a ceramic heat admitter :D

How much would a heat admitter do? Do you keep your tortoise in a table? :)

Didn't we cover all of this extensively yesterday?

You have a young russian right? They don't need the whole enclosure warmed up to tropical levels. Just give a warm basking spot right under the bulb and the rest of the enclosure can taper down to room temp. Use deep damp substrate so he can burrow down into it, and offer a humid hide, a shallow drinking bowl, and as large a table as you can fit in your house.

Too small for an adult russian. I like a minimum of 48"x96".

When would i consider Nelson fully grown, he's 3 now :)

Tortoises have indeterminate growth. They usually reach adult size within 6-10 years.
