Am looking for a tort that does not grow too big but is good for a beginner. I'm not looking to buy at any local pet stores but I'm looking for a good breeder that can give me a very good deal. Anyone there willing to help me out? It's for my friends 18th birthday. Thx! Btw I'm from San Diego

I second sulcata! ;)

On a serious note I would look into any of the testudo species, specifically eastern hermann, russian, ibera greek, and marginated. All stay around 10 inches max and are some of the hardiest tortoises out there. Price tag is fairly low as well.
