Hey, I was just thinking do tortoises at somepoint get sorta a weight explosion I guess. Ex. 47g to 87g in a short amount of time. Not necessarly that big or small of a growth bump. Just wondering I it will be really slow ten all a sudden boom then slow again?

Yes hey do have growth spurts, but there are other factors as well. If on the day that you got the 47 gram reading, the tortoise had just made a big poopy and peed, and he had not yet eaten that day, you would get a lower weight. Then if you weighed him at the end of the day, after eating all day, plus not pooping or peeing for a couple of days, all that stuff would account for quite a few grams of the difference. But it is possible that yours just sprouted. What kind of time frame are we talking about for that 40 grams of growth? It also means that you must be doing a pretty good job of taking care of him.

I try to weigh mine at the same point in the routine each time, every week or two.

Sorry I didn't word so well he's at 47g ex was just can it happen he's been growing pretty steady few grams a month. To tell you the truth I have only seen him pee once in 6 months this a bad thing? He peed that one time after getting out of the water alot came out. Also I'm feedig mostly dandelion right now with mazuri mix. Usually I mix it all endive kale romaine dandelion red lettuce. Anything else I should add. My grocery store has been poor on the vegies lately.

Variety is good. I would recommend you add some Mazuri and some ZooMed grassland tortoise chow during your winter months when the weeds are scarce. I just ended up with a big bag of the ZooMed stuff and I rather like it. Its easy to just soak a few pellets and then mix it in with whatever greens you are feeding that day. It gives them some more variety and much needed fiber that grocery store foods tend to lack. My adults will just eat it whole and dry. The Mazuri is good as its "balanced" nutrition and gives them all the stuff they need. Its a good way to supplement them and make sure they are getting all the necessary dietary elements for growth.

And don't forget the hydration. I like daily soaks for a little one like that.

Do they sell "Spring Mix" up there? Or something similar?

For a little guy, you will only need one pellet. Soak it and then mash it all up with the greens of the day. I find the spring mix to be a good way to get a lot of variety into them.
