What kind of Greek is this?

This is Murtle my Greek Tortoise. I was told he was a greek when my neighbors gave him to me but i'm thinking about breeding him and so i need to know what species he is? Thanks for any help.

"Golden greek" mostly describes the coloration of a greek tortoise; depending on it geographical origin, it will have either a lighter or darker color.

I agree with weezy on this; it looks to be a greek tortoise out of Syria. The full scientific name, including subspecies, for yo little man, is "Testudo graeca antakyanesis."

It does have the typical markings and coloration of those from Syria, but I don't think it is T.G. Antakyanesis.

With identifying Antakyanesis, "The one constant is that the last vertebral scute on the carapace is always the widest of all the vertebral scutes."
