So, looking through some OLD pictures, I came across this one.

HPIM0576.JPG

This was a turtle that showed up on our porch after a Spring storm when we lived in GA in 2003. We lived near some woods. I brought it inside because I was curious, then we set it back into the woods after taking some pictures, because I was pretty sure it would have been illegal to keep.

Are you sure about that? I mean, this is some beautiful turtle. But, you did the right thing.

It looks like an Eastern Box Turtle to me. Their range is in GA.

Is the front left foot missing? Looks like a nub in the picture..??

that is a wonderful example of a male eastern box turtle a Georgian native :) Legal or not releasing him was the right thing seeing as they are in such decline :( Beautiful picture

Thanks for the ID. My inner g33k is finally satisfied. :)

I don't think he had a nub (pretty sure I would have remembered that), his front claws must have just sunken into the carpet while he was walking around.
