many thanks. we are unsure about exact age, in the 60's, when my dad was 4 or 5 years old he found him wondering through the garden. my gran asked around has anyone lost a tortoise? does anyone know anyone who may of lost a tortoise? but no one got back to her, they already had 1 tortoise similar or the same as him (but a lot bigger) so they kept him. been in the family ever since.

Beautiful margie you have there. Where do you live. Marginateds are quite rare and normally aren't just wondering about towns. But I am glad you have found him. :)

Can you please post a plastron (bottom) shot ASAP? I believe you have a Greek tortoise and this thread needs to be moved. The flaring of the marginal scutes is in noway only assigned to Marginated tortoises and many, many Greek tortoises (ibera and anamurensis) exhibit very heavy flaring. Some even have more flaring than marginata do. The carapace in general and head are not typical marginata-looking so a plastron shot will tell us for sure. Thanks
