I live in Colorado a rather cold climate and I am thinking about getting a tortoise! I do not have any particular breed in mind but I do think a Greek tortoise would be good for me. I have never had a tortoise before and I am wondering if they are good for beginners please tell me either way! Thanks!

Greek Tortoises are a great pet if you have the right habitat for it.

Greeks and any testudo tortoises would be great as a first tortoise!

Is there a subspecies of Greek that is more favorable than another?

Which one is the smallest? I know they are all relatively small.

Can they be kept in groups?

There is more than just greek's there are also Russians and Hermanns. Greek tortoises are bigger than Russians and Hermanns.

I would encourage you to get a Greek tort. I've had one for more than five years. Love him! :<3:

Good luck in your choice and please keep us updated. :D

Ibera Greeks are cold tolerant. Groups *can* be done but not recommended. Torts in a group need lots of space and if you have a male you need two females.
