Hello, I have a young baby Leopard Tortoise :tort:. I was wonder, how old they have to be to tell the gender?

Also, how quick is there growth, say a year? :)

Thank You! :)

I agree with Laura, its more about size than age and since tortoises grow at different rates its hard to say when you will be able to tell the sex...

In most cases you'll have a pretty good idea by 3 or 4 years.

Growth rate will depend on many factors like amount and type of foods, sunlight, exercise, etc. Mine grew slowly for a few years, about 1 inch a year, and then took off and tripled in size. They need to be at least 3 or 4 years old and probably at least 6 inches in length before you can start telling for sure what sex it is.

How often should I vary my tortoises food? They say that grass is the best thing for them. But should she/he have other things to eat? So she/he will have the best chance of growing?
