Which species is this Tortoise

Can anybody help me with this? I have an idea, we took him in as a rescue but would like to know some more background info on him starting with which type he is

Thank you excuse my ignorance is this the same as the African Spurred Tortoise ?

Yes, but do not confuse with the spur thighed tortoise which is a different species.

Geochelone sulcata, or African spurred tortoise. Looks to be male, and in pretty good flesh.

What is the difference between the "African spurred" and the Spur Thighed tortoise? Just curious.

What is the difference between the "African spurred" and the Spur Thighed tortoise? Just curious.
Geochelone (Centrochelys) sulcata is the "African spurred thigh" tortoise. Testudo graeca is the "Spur thigh tortoise" or "Mediterranean Spur Thigh Tortoise".

Very different species with very different care requirements.
