I think its a matter of kids being kids and I doubt anyone wanted to hurt the tortoise.

I just heard about this today! Ugh, it makes me angry. I'm just glad the tortoise is unharmed. They say it's a box turtle but definitely looks like a Russian to me!

Yeah, it's hard to tell from the video, but it's definitely some kind of Mediterranean tortoise (Testudo species), and not a box turtle.
