Hello, we've had our turtoise for a bit now, I want to say about 2yrs . But recently I've noticed he stopped eating as much as he usually eats. Then I see one of his eye or like eyelid covering his eye & then he's not moving much hos back legs either. Before this he used to be good he would walk and his eyes were good. Not sure maybe we're doing something wrong, can someone please help?

I currently am not home but I do have him with me so I'll take a picture of his enclosure when I get home. But his enclosure is open, the breed is a sulcata.

Do you have any cats that can jump in an give him a whack to the head? I had that happen to my redfoot once....was not a cat lover much after that.

Your tortoise appears to be somewhat dehydrated. The shell shows signs that it has been kept in an enclosure which has been too dry for a long time. I suggest soaking the tortoise in lukewarm water daily for about 20 minutes, then placing it in front of its food to encourage it to eat. It usually seems to be best to do this soaking and feeding in the mornings.

Search out the thread "How to Raise a Sulcata or Leopard Tortoise" on this site and try to modify the way you are keeping your tortoise to correct some of the issues which you will discover to be the case.

Here’s the care sheet if you haven’t found it already. Please read over the care sheet and make the correct adjustments. Your substrate is on the dry side (from what I could tell). What I do is pour about a cup or two of water and mix it around to prevent the substrate from drying out too quickly. Misting doesn’t really help.

Keep up the daily soaks!

I dont know if I would trust my tortoise babies with that corner water dish.... might be hazardous. See, the tort might slip when they turn in the corner and flip themselves upside down in the water dish and drown on accident. Not fun!

You should consider getting her a misting bottle to spritz her with on a daily basis. Giving my babies their showers really helps with humidity levels too. My 2 hatchling look up at me with hate, but Artemis seems like she likes a good spray down. Well tolerates it, anyways!
