Penelope has a respiratory infection. I thought this would be a good opportunity to show how you can treat it at home(not that I'm excited for her).

As you can see, her eyes are swollen, not much discharge coming from the nose, but there is a bit of wheezing. We had one last cold night early April. Her being outdoors, I found her in the middle of the pen rather than taking refuge like the others.

It's normal for them to exhibit a little swelling around the eyes after brumation, but I knew this wasn't the case.

I'm keeping her set up simple; in a bin with napkins so I can monitor if there is discharge coming from her nose.

This alone, or natural sun itself could be enough to take care of the infection in my experience, but let's take it a step further. Carrot juice.

Haven't used this method since high school, but carrot juice soaks are a good source of vitamin A. The lack of it is a contribution to a weak immune system. It also stirs up an appetite(which Penelope still eats).

I'll soak her everyday in this solution about 30 min for a week.

I also use Vicks vapo rub and smear a little on the upper corner of the bin as well.
