Hi. Sorry can't help: I too have been reading a lot of conflicting info, which instead of helping, only confuses the reader.

Hi. I just came across a website saying that fruits a tort can have as a treat are: apples, pears, melon, strawberry, raspberry and a few more. But please do not take these words for granted. This is anything but MATHEMATICS where 1+1=2. Will give you more info whenever I can, as my tort is very picky on food, and I am researching a lot on tort diet these days.

Good luck.

By the way, what species is your cute tort?

If you do decide to feed him apples, please take care of the SEEDS, and get rid of them before giving him the fruit. Something else that could be given to torts are grapes. Mind you, even here I have read conflicting info. Here, I personally decided not to feed Oli grapes, despite the fact that he'd like them as they are so sweet. I don't like taking risks on my beloved tort.

No fruit. Very simple. None. The concept of treat is...? It just messes up their digestion because its too high in sugars. Stick to broad leaved weeds, leaves & flowers.

I'm sure they'd come across some in the wild one every 4-5 months I don't see the harm myself it's well documented in the wild they'd come across fallen fruit and probably feast as long as it's not regular

Yes, they would. However, in the wild they would have access to many local foods that we can't give them, and spend a huge proportion of their time hungry, searching for food, and mostly waiting out the bad weather and hunger times. So we try to achieve a fine balance between as natural as possible a life and as good as possible.

It's so much simpler to avoid fruit altogether than figure out how much of what kind is safe when we already know it should be a rare event. I've seen the picky eater downward spiral that feeding fruit to tortoises for whom it is not part of the regular diet can cause. So why go there? Flowers in season are a delight to them, and a good part of the diet.

I see how my crew enjoys variety and seasonal rotation.
