I currently feed him a mix of radicchio, frisee, lambs lettuce and pellets a couple times a week. Since its winter there is no weeds which I would obviously prefer to feed him. I do not have a hygrometer in his enclosure but I do make sure his substrate is damp enough. I put calcium on his food...
I use an MVB from arcadia, and I have used it for years with no problem. The light is around 23-25cm away from where he basks, it differs because he likes to dig in that place. I may try using the coconut oil as I have no clue whats going on with his shell.
He is in an open table. His basking temp differs between 96°F and 100°F, warm side is normally around 75°F, cool side is currently 63°F and the night time temp also differs between 63°F and 68°F. I am not entirely sure of the humidity but I do dampen his soil when need be :)
Hi, I have just looked at my russian tortoises shell and noticed some weird stuff about it. He is slightly pyramiding which I am aware of but his husbandry is correct and it should not worsen. Here is what I am concerned about though,
I said months ago that Jeremy would be upgraded into a bigger enclosure, and he has.
This was made with two sheets of 8x4ft plywood, screws, nails and castors. It is approximately 6x3ft, it had to be trimmed to it would fit in the car.
It has now been painted with cream chalk paint on...
Jeremy, my RT, is turning 4 this year. He is 152g right now. How much should he gain a month? He has put on 19g in two months and I feel like that is a lot.
I know its small. If I could change it now I would! Sadly, August is the earliest I could get it. If my parents had their way, they would upgrade next year! They think its fine for now. Which it really ain’t but I like I said, I can upgrade in August.
Thanks for that. I can upgrade around August time, and in the summer I do take him outside in his play pen so he does have room to run, explore and eat weeds. I know you said you keep your torts outside but I when I upgrade his table, would his basking light go in the middle or a corner? Right...
I think someone said to me that its the same as a 40 gallon, we don’t use gallons though. I will be upgrading to a 6ft by 3ft. I am probably going to buy a second hand bookshelf, put plywood at the bottom and modify it. Also, do you think he will be alright until late August in that table?
