One of our sulcatas passed away

We have everything right ever since looking at this forum but I have just been informed that the tortoises we got had a genetic disease that wasn’t caused by us. Turns out that they were unable to process nutrients properly in order to grow. So any calcium and other supplements we tried giving...

One of our sulcatas passed away

We have 2 sulcatas and we got them in August we found out they were sick and we tried our best to help them to recover. We have done an okay job but one of them died. I like tortoises and I want to have some that have been with me from the start but I feel like since today this is discouraging...

    Enclosure Humidifier

Thanks this will be a lot of help but once they become adults how much space do they need. We have a backyard that should be suitable until they get to 1 foot or more up to 15 inches but how much space do they need when they reach adult size?

    Enclosure Humidifier

Yes I have read most of the guides here including that and we are trying to upgrade our enclosures based on these guides but I was thinking that soon they would be able to live outside and since here we don't have much natural predators that I can try my best to keep humidity up until then. When...

    Enclosure Humidifier

Since our enclosure gets dry really fast and I know that it is because of our halogen spot bulb but we are trying to change that as fast as we can because here in the Philippines it’s a lot harder to get some stuff and I was reading about humidifiers will that work with a semi open enclosure...

    Hi Guys!

Hi, I know that halogen spot bulbs are bad for the tortoises because the beam is really tight and concentrated and we are thinking of switching already. I read on here that the best option is just an incandescent flood light but will any incandescent bulb work? Since either of them produce heat?

Hi is my substrate too wet :/

We also have some sphagnum moss in the corner of their other hide and I have been reading on this forum that we shouldn’t put it in do you think that I should still keep it there?

Hi is my substrate too wet :/

Thanks for your help they don’t normally use the hide nor eat it so we are thinking about removing it and what do you recommend for a food dish or is our rock fine now?

Hi is my substrate too wet :/

I feel like that my sulcatas enclosure was bone dry so I felt the need to water it but I am scared that there is too much water. When I mix it around there are bits that stick to my hand and I’m scared that since they are a desert species that their substrate is to wet. Will they get shell rot...

    Hi again!

Hello we chose cypress mulch as our substrate for our indoor enclosure and I like to keep the humidity up because it usually tends to get a bit dry but I seem to have a problem with the substrate breaking up or it turning dusty. Today when i was mixing it to see if the bottom was sill moist I...

    My one month old Baby

I'm not a pro when it comes to raising tortoises but I think that early on you can do some things to prevent pyramiding such as is the enclosure to dry? Or are you over feeding it? Pyramiding is just abnormal growth on the shell and tortoises in captivity will tend to have a bit of pyramiding...

    My month old sulcata

Hi! We have our month old sulcata and I was wondering what is the usual rule of thumb when it comes to feeding our tortoise. I have read online that overfeeding tortoises is a hazard and can cause problems so I was wondering how much is too much. And their enclosure tends to get a bit dry after...
