    Good alternative to orchid bark?

@Tom - so I laid off on the calcium powder and for a week while I was waiting for the miner-All to arrive he barely pooped any substrate – actually it was only a couple of tiny pieces. I started him on the miner-All on Friday and did a second sprinkle this morning on his food and he pooped up...

    Good alternative to orchid bark?

I wish that was the case – but the substrate definitely is coming out of his little bum. The really big ones are enrobed in poop which probably makes it a lot easier to go through that little digestive system.

    Good alternative to orchid bark?

@Tom - the minerAll says it has calcium but you mentioned not giving him calcium... I don't see any options without calcium.

OK great – thank you so much! I will try that! And yes he will be getting the expansion to the unit in less than two weeks now.

    Good alternative to orchid bark?

Yes, he is obsessed with Mazuri but I give him the juvenile one since the LS seemed really big for him. I actually wondered if the little pellets that have fallen through the substrate is what is causing him to eat the orchid bark as he digs trying to find those tiny pieces😳

    Good alternative to orchid bark?

Hello - my two year old Hermann poops orchid bark almost daily. I put his food in his terracotta saucer, but he walks through it and drags it around, and I'm guessing when he eats the pieces in the enclosure, he ends up picking up and swallowing the substrate. I'm amazed at how big some of...

    Fiesta flowers /philostoma racemosum?

Hello – I noticed these wild greens growing on a recent hike and can't find any information online if they are safe for tortoises to eat… My iphone identifies them as fiesta flowers or philostoma racemosum. Can anyone tell me? Thank you!

Is my Hermann trying to brumate??

Hi - my Hermann tortoise Mowgli is a little over one year old and wants to stay buried in his orchid bark substrate or in his corner behind the plant all day. He is not that interested in food, but he does eat a little bit each day. He does a very good poop each day when I soak him, but won't...
