    Russian Tortoise Still Not Eating

His weight at the vet was 784gm. I'll see if I can find a tiny scale so I can keep track of that, as well. Thank you!

    Russian Tortoise Still Not Eating

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough: I left him WITH the food so he could have peace and quiet. Five hours later it remains untouched. :)

Me too. I just don't want him to die on me because he's stubborn!! 😂 I ditched the food and closed off the door to the room so he can have uninterrupted peace and quiet.

    Russian Tortoise Still Not Eating

We tried the butter lettuce ~2.5 weeks ago, but maybe he wasn't eating because his environment was so new(?). I have a list of greens I want to try to purchase because he is completely unimpressed with the foraging I'm doing for him. So he'll have a tiny buffet offering tomorrow morning!

    Russian Tortoise Still Not Eating

Thanks for the recommendation; I'll scooch the UV up! He is terrified of everything. He sucks himself in if I move my hand near him or try to offer him things. He is very much not interested in interacting with me. Poor guy. I don't think he was ever touched by the previous owners; they said he...

    Russian Tortoise Still Not Eating

Soaking: Soaking 1-3 times a week (when I can easily find him; he's great at digging and hiding and some mornings I don't have time before/after work). Soaking him for about 15-20 minutes. Water temp stays between 80-90°F. Poop: He pooped on me the first day when we brought him home on 1/20...

    Russian Tortoise Still Not Eating

Hi again guys! I posted in here a few weeks ago when we first brought home our Russian tort (Myasa), but I'm still worried about the fact that he has not eaten anything. I tried to compile a list of all the questions I've been asked about him to see if someone can help me troubleshoot and...

    New Tortoise Woes

We are using the lamp he was set up with previously (in hind sight, probably should have questioned this lol). I foolishly do have it just clamped to the side of the enclosure (learned that is a no-no). Should I try to lift it up so it is not as hot?? The lamp doesn't have any real markings on...

    New Tortoise Woes

Sadly we're in the gloomy part of Washington, so he will be inside for the most part, but we definitely have plans to make him a nice, safe outdoor space once it warms up!! Glad to hear the teenager-esque attitude is pretty expected. 😂 Thank you for all the resources, happy to be here!! :)

    New Tortoise Woes

Hi, thank you so much for all this info! Thank both you and Alex for soothing my worries that I've done so.wthinf wrong and it may just take him awhile to not be so crabby with me. ;) I spent a good chunk of time here yesterday scouring through posts and you're so right; there is SO much...

    New Tortoise Woes

Thank you so much! We're definitely going to be giving him a mansion to live in! :) Hoping he'll learn to love it in about 10 years or so. ;) The hottest point under his basking lamp is usually around 106'F. Room temperature stays around 68.5'F.

    New Tortoise Woes

Hi all! I adopted my first Russian tortoise last Monday (1/20) from a coworker's sibling. This guy had been living in a 30 gallon, glass fish tank with a basking light and a UV light, no hides, a water bowl, and was being fed daily butter lettuce. For two years. No supplements. When we went to...
