Couldn`t you have asked me that question 30 years ago( in the past ) ???? LOL ! I woud have said: Man, where do you live and how much pets that comes with me will you accept ??? When you would have given me the right answer....... maybe we would have had a date.:):):):)
Hermann tortoise are not shy, very active and get not so big. They are very interesting tortoises. They like to climb and roam around and need a big enclosure even when they are still small.
Redfoot tortoises ( Cherry Head or Yellow Head ) get bigger than a Hermann`s tortoise and like to hide...
Thank you Mark. I have found NutraZu on amazon but it is not available currently. I think my torts will love the food because they try to get dry cat food pellets whenever they can ! I will try to get the NutraZu pellets and add them to their diet.
Thank you for your answer. My winter is likewise 7 months of the year. By reading all the answers I am convinced that hay can be the main food for big tortoises during the winter. The private experiences of tort owners here are the best ones.
I had the same idea like you and I feed the hay only in one really dry corner of the enclosure. I am careful with hay and humidity because I want no mold. Mold and fungus can damage the lungs of tortoises seriously. So I don`t want the torts to poop and pee on the hay. I can get easily high...
No problem! I love to post pictures of them. The next question, the next thread I am going to make is about what sex my torts are. I wait for a sunny day when they are outside, grab them and put them on their backs. The will not be amused....... I guess that I have 3 female and one male tort...
Tom, you make a 58 year old woman feel like a teenager of 16 years who just got her first praise how good she is looking .... LOL !:):<3: You made my day !?
No, now seriously ( how seriously I can be and that is not much ... ) THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your praise. My shelled babies only...
Maggie, I am glad that there is no problem. I am the last one who wants to create problems, but I am a newbie with these big tortoises and the ammount of food they eat. I only want to be sure to do nothing wrong. I can get sometimes grocery greens in winter for my torts but their appetite is so...
I don`t like to put something that is wet on hay. The hay will mold fast, unfortunately. But I will try @Yvonne `s suggestion with the soaked pellets on a plant saucer. I place the food in an edge. It`ll will be more difficult to crawl over the pellets in an edge.
Mazuri is not available in Germany but Pre Alpin. I have fed the Pre Alpin several times but they ran over the soaked pellets and made a bigh mash without eating much. But hay they eat well. Should I try the Pre Alpin once more again ?
