    Recommendations on basking?

I just created an enclosure for my redfoot since here in Mexico City the temperatures are going well below 50F. I’m using coconut coir on top of peat moss, it’s around 40 square feet which should be enough for her at her age (she’s 2 yo) The thing now is that since it’s an open enclosure, it...

My tortoise apparently ate a plastic plate!

Thanks! this was actually his first enclosure a couple years ago, but he looks exactly the same, that’s why I posted it haha Nowadays he only has a ceramic heater and a UVB bulb with an horizontal clamp lamp (the UVB is 10.0) ; the thing is that it’s very difficult to find UVB tubes here...

My tortoise apparently ate a plastic plate!

(The part that’s bitten) It’s not a lot, but my tortoise is also not very big (about 18 cms diameter). He was having his regular cactus on top of that plate but I guess he started to eat the cactus and the plate at some point. Should I be worried? It happened a couple hours ago and he’s still...

Could you please upload a picture in order to determine what’s best for it? Perhaps it is an indigenous tortoise, but who knows

    New member of the family!

My guy is a Mazuri lover, he loves it and basically ignores everything else when he sees the Mazuri, so I might need to stop giving him that much. I feed him everyday, with three days per week giving him the Mazuri along with some veggies and some greens. He’s not a huge fan of kale and escarole...

    Gopher Tortoise Friendly Plants

I've heard spider plants are okay for tortoises, but I would be sure. Also, aloes and other succulent plants and cactus should be safe since those are native from the mexican desert. However I would ask for @ZEROPILOT and @Lyn W for their confirmation.

    New member of the family!

Thanks @Lyn W @Yvonne G and @ZEROPILOT , I’ve followed your instructions and I try to keep his enclosure mostly humid (around 80-90%) and the daily mean temp about 74-80 F, while at night it can go down from 60 to 70 F. This is the enclosure I made for him by now: I’m using coconut fiber, I...

More like the big maing differences when caring. Like, I know this tortoise is omnivorous but I'd like to know how much animal protein I should give him or if it's enough with Mazuri + some other plants It's a red foot, according to its papers, it was raised in a red foot hatchery. He was...

    New member of the family!

So I went to a reptile shop for the last… 5-6 months? And I developed a relationship with a red foot, every time I came to visit the store he/she would come to me and would start moving around its small enclosure. Today I decided it was time for him to join the family (we’re two cats and a...

He is indoors yes and he has his basking lamp and his CHE, so should I just warm his enclosure enough for him to keep him awake?
