Ahhh that's true. Yea I have a few different torts and varying sizes lol but I can always cut them to smaller pieces with less or no spikes before I feed them. I'll definitely take size into consideration then. Thanks!
Aha that's what they're called. No kidding lol ?. They were one of the reasons why we started to buy the nopales from the market because their glochids had been removed. But of course buying them every other week is pricey in the long run so I wanted to see if any of the cactus I currently have...
Oooo that's great to know, I'll definitely feed more once it becomes more established or else t will be gone in a week ? I worried abut the tiny spikes coming out of it. Granted I have seen some videos of tortoises eating cacti covered in spikes ?
Thanks!
Hey everyone! I have a cactus that I grew from one pad. I bought it and was sold and plainly stated as 'opuntia'. I'm wondering what type it is and if it's tortoise safe. Thanks!
Here are the pics:
Hey everyone! So I was watching a video by the Turtle Conservancy and in one of the clips, a tortoise was shown eating a plumbago flower. I read before that these were poisonous but they are native in parts of southern Africa where many tortoise species are from. The Tortoise Table also says...
Dang lol ? went right in and ate it all eh? Russians are truly the best climbers :tort:I'll see for some kind of more "sturdy" and higher fence if that's the case. It's all worth a try right? The hummingbird sage is only one plant as of now, the rhizomes haven't started to come out yet so I...
Yessss and thank you so so much for that detailed reply. ?? It was tremendously helpful. That's definitely true, I was feeling hopeful that it has the slight possibility of being included on the Tortoise Table lol.
That's great to know! I'll feed it to them more often knowing its safe.
Oh my goodness lol. Such a fast eater, they really do have ferocious appetites. Our newly planted enclosures experience that same decimation too. ? And our sulcatas are the perfect lawnmowers lol
I'll definitely take that into consideration then. I don't want this plant to be decimated either...
So I noticed that my leopard loves to eat herbs of all kinds. Is this common for some tortoises because hear most don't even try it because of its strong scents. Whenever I offer some not a single leaf or stem is left. Especially basil and oregano flowers. I have heard some tortoises eat a lot...
Hey everyone! I recently got a hummingbird sage plant (Salvia Spathacea) for a native CA garden and I'm wondering if tortoises can eat it. I can't seem to find any sources online that specifically mentions it. The Tortoise Table lists regular sage (Salvia officinalis) as ok in moderation and...
