When you say 20cm is that the length of the shell from tail to head? Or is that left to right? What is the weight estimate of a full size greek? I havent been able to find info on weight.
Laura! my friends just found a yellow foot tort in their yard. It has been a few weeks now looking for the owner. The tort is very healthy and very out going. I haven't seen a picture yet of the sex etc. But seems to be a few years old. About 1ft in lenfth. No pyramiding. I can send pictures if...
Also Just a side note now that this post has been up for awhile, the greeks do not have a problem with the glass and seem very calm and content with their enclosure. They are not stressed by the plexi at all and have adapted very well. I will say that my larger greek(gizmo) he is (looking to be...
Alfalfa hay and a few other types of hay are high in protein and I think that is where that rumor came from, but high protein isn't the leading cause of pyramiding but probably a smaller component. That is also only if they are eating the alfalfa.
Also be careful using certain types of hay such as alfalfa are high in protein and you wouldn't want them eating too much of it. I believe the orchard hay is the way to go. I have horses as well and the orchard is your safest bet.
I love the pictures! And now that I re-look at his shell, you are correct. The large ridge is from one of his original scutes. It looks as though all of his new growth is perfect!
I have had Gizmo since dec. 24 2009. He was about the size of a silver dollar when i got him. It is now Feb. 4th and he is about 2 in. wide and about 2.5 in. long. I am guessing he is around 3-4 months old? He is growing like crazy. Cosmo, my other greek, who i believe is very close in age as...
My baby Greek tortoises are doing great. I have noticed since I have had them that they both like to do this "arm pump" movement. Where they pump their arms in and out all the time. There isn't any head bobbing going on just arm pumping. They will do it whether they are by themselves basking in...
They little guys seem to love their new house. It seems Gizmo(the larger one) has been looking through the glass trying to figure out how to get to me =) But he does it for a little bit and goes back to eating. The plexi glass along the edges has been sanded down to make sure they can't hurt...
Gizmo and Cosmo were introduced to their new home a few hours ago! Here is their new Tort Table! They have been running around and exploring for about 3 hours now and it seems every 15 minutes they take a Nom nom break! I think i am just as excited as they are! A basking rock and another hide...
I thought that Greeks need a lower humidity level. Somewhere around 10-30% humidity? I have been reading a lot of posts and it seems everyone is keeping their humidity levels at 40-70%? Do Greeks need more humidity?
As of today my new substrate will be 80%Cypress mulch and 20% Repti-...
