I see that they started a new thread for you after I just responded on my thread. I would make sure your tortoise has a humid hide box as well like nearly 100% humid in there with the temps at the lowest 80F in there. Probably want something more enclosed to hold the humidity in. Mine is...
Going to the bathroom in the water each time is totally normal I don’t switch it I just flush it when I’m done soaking. I usually get my soaking water from 85-90 degrees, I use a temp gun to check it and I also put it back in the container where it will hold its temp longer. You definitely...
I think you will find as I did that keeping the humidity above 90% in there without a top is a challenge unless the ambient humidity in the room is 90%. Tom has shown that keeping the humidity up with the right temps works well. There’s lots of info in the forum about diet.
I’m using a cement...
Well dang the prices on those are reasonable! I started looking around saw some plastic Ibc totes on my farm and I might try something with those. Not real classy looking but I could make them look good with some barn wood. I have a guy who can get me food grade ones for pretty reasonable...
@Tom

Thanks Tom, I will make the changes to get the humidity up!
What is your preferred substrate?
Also the handful of hay I toss in there gets rotated out about weekly. My sulcata does eat the leaves off it but I made a small chopped up salad of weeds and hay today and it surely got more in...
So I’m new to sulcatas and I’ve read a ton but wondered if some members could look at my pictures and see if they see improvement from when I brought my sulcata home or suggestions.
Day one, seems like there might be the start of some pyramiding but I’m not experienced in what they should look...
Tom, another member said you are a falconer too. I’m currently breeding peregrines. Just transferred my passage Goshawk so I don’t have a hunting bird currently. Pouring my animal husbandry into my new baby sulcata! Thanks for your long thread on keeping the babies wet. I think in the three...
Jacqui, I saw an old post that stated you were in Nebraska. I live in NE and just got a sulcata. I’ve done my research and contemplated it for a long time before committing to it. We live on a farm and I use green houses in our market operation, I have some ideas to extend my sulcata’s...
