I did it. Took out the humidifier!
I made a mostly enclosed chamber. I used all the moss actually and put it into high bowls. The torts cannot reach it to eat and I didn’t have to throw it away. It keeps the humidity so high. You’re right about the closed chamber making for easy maintenance...
I run an animal rescue, this is definitely one of my top concerns as well. Just don’t know what to do with it all. I guess “over the fence” into the woods it goes. Could it be burned?
Eek!
Gotcha. Well we’re in the process of building a larger enclosure which will be an enclosed chamber, where this will be easier to rectify. They’re already outgrowing their current home.
This site is confusing. I see plenty of people using humidifiers on this sub. If it’s on a timer as suggested, and only for babies who need humidity is it all that terrible?
Well, once these babies hatched and were out of the incubator I admit it was a small struggle getting the humidity correct and steady in their new house. We finally landed it at 90%. I’ll take it for now, however I’m working on making it 100%. I’m really happy that they’re so happy. That’s what...
Thinking ahead.
What to do with adult Sulcata poop?
I have four babies, and eventually these babies will produce a large amount of poop! So fun.
They will have 3 acres all for themselves. It’ll be a daily chore to muck their enclosure lol
Use it as fertilizer or chuck it?
I could chuck it...
We have a friend who sells tortoises and let us hatch two eggs. We purchased the first two hatchlings and incubated the younger two.
I believe the issue was the humidity in the incubator, but we eventually figured it out finally. I don’t believe it’s anything wrong, just a smaller one that came...
We have four Sulcatas. Two from one clutch and two from another. They are five weeks apart and I’m wondering if one of the younger torts is a runt? She’s so active and eats like a champ, really such a cutie, but much smaller than her clutch mate. She was the very last to hatch fully and was...
Why are tortoises so darn cute? I wish I was exaggerating when I say that I could/do watch them all day. Here are my babies post soak, enjoying a snack ??
