They both seem to have four distinct toes/claws on the rear legs, and four distinct toes/claws on the front legs with a small rigid fifth that I may be confusing with one of the barb like plates on the front legs. The mystery continues....
Edit: Just answered this question with a little...
Good catch, he came that way, I was not sure if it was a natural part of his anatomy, but yes the very tip of his tail is a bit different, maybe a healing nip from the breeder?
Again, not that I can trust anything that the shop said, but ellegedly these came from a breeder in Northern...
GreatGB! I think I am going to let them get a bit more comfortable in the table habitat and then take them to a local tortoise DR. that I found for a wellness check, if old Petsmart was so dumb about these two I want to make sure they are healthy. Thanks!
And for those that wanted to see a...
Yes, that is what I was just looking up..... Still would be nice to figure out the gender of the small one. I believe when the small one is just younger than the other, but is arguably more attractive. It seems like they would be a bit more compatible if the (female?) outgrew the male.
I'll...
Well, we are quite fond of them regardless of species or gender. But I do hope to figure this all out as soon as possible. If this is not a compatible situation I want to separate before they suffer, or our children become too attached.
The family seems to like the larger more active obvious...
The substrate is a combination mix of Coir and play sand. This seemed to be the most frequently quoted "best" substrate for RTs, but again you all have been friends of the tortoise longer than me.
This has been a concern. The as yet to be determined RT is smaller than the other. I have read and read and find inconclusive information on keeping multiple RTs. The enclosure in the background is a 2'x4' table. Many care sheets, and info pages indicate that this should be sufficient for...
When I first saw these two at the whop my guess was that we had a male and female pair. After much assurance that they were two males living well in ansmall terarium we took them both. I still have my suspicion that this one might be female.
