He is a red foot and he is now about 3 years old and has a lot of human interaction - I do what you have mentioned but he always wants my fingers and it does hurt as you probably know:) I'm worried of course that the bigger he gets the bigger the bite - I don't know how to show him the...
Hi all: I am wondering how one stops their tortoise from always trying to bite fingers, hands, etc. I see tortoises in video who never bite their humans but Herschel thinks my fingers are yummy sausages or something - any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! thank you.
Really?! Wow I am surprised at this. I thought animals had an innate knowledge about 'themselves' if you will. So I should force him to soak? This will be distressing for both of us as he really gets upset but as I said I am not the expert; you are so...
Our redfoot does not enjoy soaking either. I soak him maybe 3 times a week for 5 minutes otherwise he freaks out. I figure he knows better than I how long he wants/needs to soak?...In his sandbox there are bowls to soak in if he chooses. I don't know if this helps as I am certainly no expert.
I know your horror! Our red foot was also attacked by a dog and I was able to grab Herschel just in time - it was a long weekend and had to drive 3 hours the next day to an emergency vet - it took weeks and weeks of care but I am thrilled to say he is here and a true warrior - my hope is that...
I'm frustrated that I cannot upload the pics til I have some tech support - ha! I'm really glad I found this forum and when I do show you all I hope you are amazed and not horrified! I sure pray for the amazed part:) But seriously, I am checking on him constantly because you have made me aware...
As soon as my brother returns I will upload a photo so it will be easier to see - I am a bit worried now and will be keeping a close eye - thank you so much for your quick response!
Why the long strands? The opening has been cut diagonally in strips (we thought he might like to scratch himself), but what is the reason? Am I hurting him in some way?!!!! Thank you!
p.s. I am computer illiterate but I will try and show some photos.
I apologize as I am new here and can't seem to find where to post something but our red foot Herschel outgrew his 'home' and the next size up was huge (maybe for a lizard?), so I went to a nursery and bought a plant holder within a metal frame (which we modified somewhat) and it is made of...
Hi - new silent member here - we have a 2 year old (we think) red foot Herschel and I have some moss in his 'sand box' but are you saying this is not a good idea?! Thank you!
