Placing my Kapidolo order right now, what sizes do you recommend for a single young russian? I don't want to order too much and have it go bad on me. Assuming it lasts a while though since its dried. Also are any of their grass products good for the "soaked grass hay pieces" you mentioned?
I have a 10.5" dome but I can't mount my light any higher so higher wattage isn't an option for me. This is how I got to this oddball setup 😅. The temp numbers are good at the moment and if they start changing I'll make sure to make adjustments based on everyone's comments. Thanks again everyone!
My lighting setup might be a bit strange but seems to work in my house. I use the CHE to help keep my daytime ambient temps high enough, my basking light doesn't seem to be enough for this enclosure. At night my temps stay in the high 60s so I don't need any heat running. I keep a close eye on...
Thank you for the praise, very proud of my setup. Reassuring answers to my questions too! I'll make sure to get some pellets and dried leaves to rotate in and out with my herbal hay.
One last question for you or anyone else who's familiar. How big should I let my testudo seed mix grow before I...
Thanks for all the advice, I'll keep an eye out for too much dust. I should've specified it's a large aloe leaf from the produce section, so it should be safe for consumption. I'll give him a little piece and see what he thinks. Thanks again!
I'm familiar with the starter posts, here's my original care plan from before I got everything set up. My understanding was that plain coir was better for hatchlings to get around on but orchid bark was superior for grown torts. I'd be willing to try some and see if he likes it. I use tortoise...
I got my Russian Einstein back in October and he seems to be doing well. He's still putting on weight (102g from 45g in Nov) , acting normal, and no signs of pyramiding. Just wanted to ask a few misc questions and see if I can get some advice.
1. Substrate - I see a lot of advice on substrate...
Thank you! Yes, the plan is for a closed chamber. I have a lid for the top and I'll have sliding glass on the front when it's done.
Nope just one, I see how my wording was confusing though 😅 just said "they" since I don't know if it's male or female yet.
I have 60w flood bulb for basking, 100w che, and Arcadia 36" 12%. I'm using 10.5 in chicken brooding lamps that I will hang from chains to adjust height/temp. It's 4'x4'x2'. I know I need 4'x8' once full size, but this is all I have room for at the moment.
And thanks, it's been a long project...
I am almost done with my diy enclosure for my Russian so that they can graduate from their 55gal tub. I just need some lighting advice before I drill wiring holes places I regret. The pic below shows my plan with basking in yellow, uvb in blue, and che in red. Should I spread them out more or...
I received my Russian tortoise hatchling from @Carol S today and could not be happier with the whole experience. She answered a lot of questions for me when I was shopping for supplies and allowed me to reserve a tortoise for a reasonable deposit. She sent me a photo of several and allowed me to...
